‘Hot’ study branch graduates find it difficult to get jobs
Published: 26/02/2009 05:00
Since the beginning of 2009, only a few businesses have contacted economics and technology universities to ask for help in their recruitment plans. In general, the recruitment market is now very gloomy.
Dr. Do Kim Hao, Dean of the Banking Faculty, under the Banking Institute, said that Asia Commercial Bank (ACB) once recruited 32 out of 42 students of the K6 C class in 2007. Meanwhile, only three students from K8 C class hope they will be recruited after the probation period. The The Hanoi University of Mining and Geology received representatives from 200 businesses in 2006, then 310 in 2007, and 500 in 2008, who came to the university to recruit graduates. In 2008, there were 1,150 jobs for 1,020 graduates. A business recruited graduates for 45 positions at last year’s job day. Meanwhile, only one business has come to the university to look for employees so far this year. Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Xuan Hang, Dean of Banking and Insurance Faculty under the Waiting for opportunities Duong Thi Linh, a student from the Business Administration Faculty under the Banking Institute, said that many friends of hers are now taking part-time jobs, and collaborating with banks and market survey companies. Meanwhile, Linh said she needs to follow other training sources, on credit or accountancy, and learn English in order to get good jobs when the economy recovers. In fact, excellent students still have many job opportunities now. The law graduates at the ‘excellent’ level will be automatically recruited by the Ministry of Justice. However, in the last 3-4 years, only 5-7 students can get ‘red degrees’ among 1,000 students. The students who graduate from the Post & Telecommunications Institute of Technology, which belongs to the Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group, and have the marks of 9.0 and higher, will be employed by the group. Hang said that in the current period, businesses will certainly set high requirements for candidates and demand high quality students. Dr. Do Kim Hao, Dean of Banking Faculty from the Banking Institute said that European projects always require high skills and fluent English, while not many students can meet all those demands.
