The second national emulation congress on study encouragement will be held in Hanoi late September, according to a press release issued on February 26.

The congress will be attended by about 500 organisations and individuals who have made active contributions to study encouragement movements.

The event aims to highlight education achievements and review lessons drawn from the implementation of study encouragement movements and the building of an educated society since the first national congress was held in October 2000 under the theme “for the cause of study encouragement”.

Tran Tinh, Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam Study Encouragement Association, said the upcoming congress will continue to promote the implementation of “Studying and following the late President Ho Chi Minh’s moral examples” movement across the country and participants will give opinions on increasing the effectiveness of study encouragement movements in localities.

From 2005 to 2008, more than 163,000 people were encouraged to take illiteracy eradication classes. So far, all provinces and cities nationwide have set up their own study encouragement associations, study encouragement funds and more than 9,000 community education centres.

More than 3 million families have been recognised as “Studious Families” and over 50,000 clans as “Study Encouragement Clans”. Each local study encouragement fund annually provides VND250-300 billion to help poor students and teachers.
