VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese scientists have released the results of a survey, showing that 80% of high school students and 70% of university students say they are afraid of making their way in the world.

This thought prompts a lot of Vietnamese young people to try to delay when they begin making their way in the world by continuing studies at higher levels.

“The more we learn, the more we will be more self-confident because we can get a lot of things from school. I have set up a plan for myself, under which I will learn more to get a PhD degree if I can. In a lower scenario, I will get an MA degree after I finish university,” Tuyen, 19, a student at a HCM City-based university, said when he was preparing to return to lecture halls after the Tet holiday in his home city of Tam Ky in the central province of Quang Nam.

The student said that a lot of his friends share the same thought as they also don’t look forward to having to deal with colleagues and bosses when they go to work.

According to the Vietnamese scientists, the world’s researchers have recognised the 25/75 concept, which means that schools can only provide 25% of the knowledge labourers need to earn their living, while the other 75% they need to get in their life.

High degrees and many degrees will bring better jobs

This proves to be a golden concept of Vietnamese youths nowadays, and in order to fulfill the concept, they have only one choice: learning and learning.

The concept explains why most students want to take A-group university entrance exams (students have to take the three exams of mathematics, physics and chemistry). They think that the students of A-group study branches can find jobs more easily.

However, statistics show that only 30% of the students registering to take the exams are enrolled in the study branches they want.

Studying at universities, in the minds of many students, is the only way for young people to make their way in the world.

However, the youth forget that they need a lot more skills like presentation skills and team-work skills, while high degrees are not the only things they need in their lives.

“I know a lot of people, who were the students of my parents. The students just finished junior college after high school and they now lead a happy life. Meanwhile, other students tried to apply to universities, but they fail the entrance exams 3-4 times,” Ly, a 12th- grade girl related.

Experts have called on youths to remember the 25/75 principle and be braver in making their way in the world, as life is also a school.
