VietNamNet Bridge – Only making low-risk investment deals, and not following the crowd in making investments – these are the characteristics of a new breed of investors on gold trading floors: students.

There are more and more investors-students on gold trading floors

Hong Lien, a student of the Banking University, said that she has got the profit equal to 60% of her investment capital in the last three months. Lien said that she is a finance student, so she needs to use the knowledge she gets at the university in practice.

On Vi Na VJC gold trading floor, investors thought that Lien just went to learn from experienced investors about how to make transactions, because Lien is always unruffled. Lien never loses her self-control even when gold prices fluctuate.

“Many investors follow others in making investments. As a result, many of them make wrong decisions, though they initially have good analysis,” Lien said.

Though only a 2^nd year university student, Lien has more than one year of experience acting as a securities investor. With the profit she made from securities investments, Lien has shifted to make investment in gold as the gold market has become hot, especially since Tet.

Tran Minh Duc, also an investor-student, who comes from the Foreign Trade University, said that the gold market can bring opportunities of earning billions VND, but it can also make investors penniless.

Duc related that due to wrong forecasts earlier this year, he lost 2/3 of the capital he persuaded his mother to spend on gold investments.

However, Duc has decided to continue investing. With the knowledge he gets from the university, and the bitter lesson of investment, Duc said he has become more experienced and courageous.

While many investors still prefer making transactions on the trading floors which have big transaction volumes and quick order matching speed, investors-students say they only make transactions on the floors which have transaction prices closer to the world’s prices, which are not dominated by any individual or institution.

Investors-students never run risks in making investments, and they never place purchase orders just because other investors do that. A lot of students have learned basic knowledge about the market and investment principles.

Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, a student of the Foreign Economics Junior College, believes that investors should not leave gold trading floors for the stock market permanently, as the stock market has yet to warm up.

Thanh said that he still cannot see the possibility of the stock market bouncing back in the near future.

Targeting the students who have a demand to learn about investments on gold trading floors, Vi Na Gold Joint Stock Company plans to organise a workshop on gold investment on March 28-29, hoping to attract the attention of students from economics universities in HCM City.
