VietNamNet Bridge – Director of the Da Nang city Education and Training Department Huynh Van Hoa said that lessons on the history, geography and culture of Hoang Sa Islands would be taught at schools as of the 2009-2010 school year.

The ancient document which has been held by generations of the Dang family is evidence for Vietnam’s sovereignty of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands.

Hoa said that the Ministry of Education and Training decided to make the Hoang Sa Islands’ history a part of the general school curriculum.

Hoa said that Da Nang authorities will join forces with Hoang Sa Islands district authorities and the local Department of Home Affairs to organise excursions so students and teachers can visit the Hoang Sa Islands district People’s Committee and Hoang Sa Museum to learn more about the islands.

Moreover, extra-curricular activities will also be organised during which students can learn more about the history of the islands, and have opportunities to listen to witnesses talk about the Hoang Sa Islands.

Prior to that, on April 20, the Hoang Sa Islands district authorities organised a meeting with citizens who have been living and working on the islands since before 1974.

Dang Cong Ngu, Director of the Da Nang Department of Home Affairs, who has been appointed Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoang Sa Islands district, the district’s authorities are making every effort in order to publish the first book about the Hoang Sa Islands.

“Documentation of Hoang Sa Islands is not only pictures, maps and materials, it is also ‘living materials’. Witnesses with their words and related stories also prove to be important historical evidence for the next generations,” Ngu said.
