Preliminary statistics given after April 10 showed that most of students have registered for taking university entrance exams under group A and D.

Students are making registrations to take exams to universities and junior colleges

April 10 was the deadline for students to register for university entrance exams to high schools and local education and training departments. However, in principle, students still can register if they come directly to universities and junior colleges and the authorized points of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Less registration from free examinees

The authorized points specializing in receiving registrations from free examinees (the examinees, who finished high schools in previous years, and now do not study at any university or junior college) all said that the number of registrations proves to be very low this year.

Tran Quang Khoi, an employee from the Dong Da district’s education sub-department, said that the sub-department received some 500 registrations last year, while it has received some 100 applications this year.

High schools have reported that 805 of 12th class students have registered to take exams to universities and junior colleges, and the majority of them have registered to take exams under A and D group.

Representatives from schools said that the hot study branches like information technology, technique, banking and finance, economics, and tourism prove to be the biggest choices of students.

In HCM City, the HCM City Economics University is expected to see the highest number of examinees. According to the Le Hong Phong Gifted High School, 200 out of 1,517 registrations are aimed to the university. Students also like the University of Foreign Trade (146) and HCM City University of Technology (173), as well as the Medicine and Pharmacy University (119).

At the Tran Dai Nghia Gifted High School, by April 9, there had been 105/970 registrations to the HCM City Economics University. The Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School had had 201 applications to the university out of 1,900 registrations.

“Multi-field training universities prove to attract many students as well,” said Kim Anh from Marie Curie High School. “A lot of registrations have been made to Ton Duc Thang and Hoa Sen Universities,” she added.

According to local newspaper Tien phong, each student makes three registrations to three universities. However, they will be allowed to take exams to two universities at maximum.

Avoiding top universities

Preliminary statistics showed the clear classification of students. The Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted High School, the leading high school in Hanoi, has seen high number of registrations to top universities 100-120/1,000 registrations have been made to the Hanoi University of Foreign Trade, Hanoi University of Technology, Hanoi National University and Hanoi Economics University.

Meanwhile, the Ngo Thi Nham High School has seen the highest ratio of students registering to take exams to the Hanoi Open University (123/1,054 registrations). The Ngoc Hoi High School has 131/1,640 students registered to the Hanoi Agriculture University. Meanwhile, the Thanh Tri Continuation Education Centre sees students mostly registering to Central Junior College of Education (25/170 students), the Trade Union University (14/170) and University of Industries (22/170).
