Born blind, living in a poor family and having a poor childhood, Chung has never given up. He has been living full of optimism and has always been an energetic and good student at school.

Chung on the way to school

Chung was born a normal boy, like many other children, in good health. However, when he was one year old, his mother discovered that the eyes of her son had some problems. Chung found it hard to define directions, which made it him difficult to travel. Chung’s body was full of scars because he always fell.

Chung’s parents once sold all the assets they had to bring their son to hospitals in Hanoi. However, the doctors said that they could do nothing with Chung because he was born blind. Chung cried a lot, and then asked his parents to bring him to their home village in Ha Tinh province immediately.

One day, Chung surprised his parents when he suddenly asked to be brought to school. And Chung became the special student of the class, who only ‘felt’ the lessons and spelt with his ears.

Chung’s hard days of going to school to learn to read and write finished when the blind people’s association created favorable conditions for Chung to learn Braille writing to integrate into the community. At Braille class, Chung was always the most excellent student. The Braille writing has completely changed the life and thoughts of Chung, a student who has always been eager for learning.

Chung was one of the best students of the Ky Thu primary and secondary school in Ky Anh district. The study results of Chung were even better when Chung went through high school. Chung was especially good at mathematics, physics, chemistry and English. Chung was many times sent to the district’s competitions of excellent students.

Chung not only learns well, but also always maintains optimism. During secondary school, Chung composed 15 poems. Each of Chung’s poems contains the beauty of life and friendship. Chung also showed his dreams of a sightless boy in the poets.

In a working trip to Ha Tinh one year ago, President Nguyen Minh Triet visited the school where Chung is learning. Impressed by the energy of the poor but excellent student, President Triet gave a present to Chung, textbooks for 10th and 11th classes, and a bicycle, so that Chung can go to school. Chung has become the sightless person in Ha Tinh province who has textbooks in Braille, which serves as the driving force, encouraging him to write more of his dreams.

Chung has also been enthusiastic with a new job, teaching his sister, who is also sightless. Chung said that he and his sister will together integrate into the life confidently.
