VietNamNet Bridge – More than 1,000 examination sites throughout the country have been announced. However, some students will still have to travel 40 km to sit for their final exams.

With the new method of organising high school final exams this year, under which students go to designated examination points rather than their high schools, students in suburban areas of Hanoi, among other places, will have to travel farther for the three days of exams.

These students say that they will not be able to return home at midday, between their two exams, and thus have nowhere to stay at lunchtime. If it is hot, the students could be badly affected.

According to Ha Thi Quyen, headmaster of Cat Ba High School in Hai Phong city, some students will have to travel 40 km to reach examination points.

Quyen said that the exams will take place in the tourism season; therefore, it will be very difficult for students to find somewhere to stay, as accommodations for rent will be full.

Chu Thi Thuy, deputy headmaster of Cat Hai High School, said that students who live on Phu Long Island and have to take a ferry to school often come to school late due to bad weather. It could happen that students may not be able to make it to exams on time, in which case they would fail their finals.

A lot of parents on Phu Long Island who have children sitting for the exam at Cat Hai will have to go to Cat Hai a day before the exams begin and stay there until the three days are over.

Thai Nguyen province has 4,830 ethnic minority examinees out of a total number of 16,220 examinees. The students will have to travel a long distance to reach examination points: 20 km, for example, to get to Phu Luong and Dong Hy.

Seeking boarding houses for examinees

Nearly 100 students of Nguyen Van Sieng School in Kieng Giang province will have to travel 20 km of road to An Minh School in town to sit for the final exam.

On May 18, teachers of the school went to An Minh to seek accommodations for students to stay during exam days. Le Van Hoang, the school’s headmaster, said that it is not easy to find reasonable boarding houses for such a large number of students.

Hoang also said that the school will have to take students to the examination point one day before the exam.

Ninh Thanh Vien, Deputy Director of Kien Giang Education and Training Department, in which province there are 22 groups of examination points, fears that there will not be enough accommodations for all students.

Ninh also said that the hardest task will be arranging accommodations for inspectors, supervisors, parents and students.
