They are all students, and the youngest boy of the three is not yet 20 years old. But they still earn over VND10 million a month, the dream of many adults. What is their secret?

Nguyen Van Hai

Hai’s job is, together with the company’s board of management and invited lecturers, to design training syllabuses, enroll students for training courses, manage training courses on business skills, and give consultancy to business managers and salesmen.

With the fixed salary of VND4 million a month, plus 40% of the company’s turnover, Hai can earn VND12-15 million a month.

Hai seems to be very happy with his job. “The job helps me establish relations with famous businesses. As I am learning international business, the job helps me a lot in studying,” he said.

Before studying international business at the Hanoi Foreign Trade University, Hai studied NANO technology at the Technology University for two years. When he was 20, he incurred the colossal debt of VND200 million and he had to think about how to get money to pay the debt.

Hai related that the debt forced him to think and work. Hai, while still going to university every day, had to do a lot of extra jobs to live and to pay debts. One day, he accidentally met the director of the Hanoi Business Development Support Company at an event he organised for a client company.

The director, who could see Hai’s ability, decided to invite Hai to run the company together with him. At that time, the company was on the verge of bankruptcy. However, after just six months, the company had escaped from the bad situation with the assistance of the then 21 year old deputy director Hai.

“After three months of working, I could bring the company profit of several hundred million VND with projects and a clear business strategy,” he said.

Hai paid off all his debts and in March 2009 he set up his own business, called Pro Skills, specialising in teaching sales skills and sales management skills.

Tran Quang Trung and the job with four special characteristics

Born in 1987, Trung is now a second-year student at Aprotrain Aptech, which trains software programmers. Trung is also working part-time for Vinasoftware located on Dinh Cong street. His job is to design websites and write software for the company’s projects.

But Trung also does extra jobs as freelancer. He can earn VND10-15 million a month.

Trung said: “My job has four special characteristics among jobs related to information technology: It is the most uninspiring, it requires the most patience, it is the most difficult and it can bring the highest income.

“If you don’t have patience, you will not be able to live together will so many databases and boring codes,” he said.

Being one of the most excellent students of Aprotrain-Aptech Centre, Trung has become the ‘pet’ student of lecturers and the person being hunted by software companies. Le Hong Hai, a lecturer at the centre, who saw the talent of Trung, introduced Trung to Vinasoftware.

At Vinasoftware, at first, Trung had to experience three months of probation. After every project, the company’s managers gave comments about Trung’s work and adjusted Trung’s salary gradually.

“You should never be shy and should not miss opportunities to show your ability. Only dynamism and self-confidence can bring a good job with satisfactory pay to you,” he said.

Hoang Nam gets rich with fashion

Nam proves to be the youngest of the three millionaire students. Born in 1990, he is now a first-year student at the Information Technology Junior College under the Hanoi University of Technology.

Nam now assumes the job of developing brand names for BAB fashion company. He has to do a lot of work, from taking care of public relations, polishing the image of the company on the market and distributing products to clients.

Though having a lot of work to do, Nam seems to be not very busy. “I have a reasonable working plan. I try to arrange my work in an effective way. As I can manage myself, my work and my money, I can learn and work well, while I do not have to spend too much time on work.

Nam related that he now can earn VND10 million a month. And in order to obtain the high income, he not only works in the fashion industry. He is also the customer consultant for a household product company.

Nam related that he was born into a well-off family so he had the habit of ‘spending money’ when he was a child. It was the habit which prompted Nam to start doing business when he was in 10th class at high school.

At first, Nam traded mobile phones and electronics products, and then he jumped into a new field, fashion. When he was a 12th class student he was earning $600 a month.

When asked about ‘business know-how’, Nam said he is always confident because he ‘inherits the business gene’ from his parents. Moreover, he is good at information technology. The two things are able to bring him money.
