The 2009 Ho Chi Minh City Education Development Festival will promote local and foreign schools at the Phu Tho Sports & Convention Event Hall in District 11 next weekend.

Local public schools, vocational schools, colleges and universities, as well as education agencies from the embassies of Canada, New Zealand, Hungary, Malaysia and Singapore will host booths at the event running Friday to Sunday.

Director of the municipal Department of Education and Training, Huynh Cong Minh, told a press conference that the fair would provide a unique opportunity for the nation’s public schools as they don’t advertise in the media the same way private institutions do.

Last year’s event attracted 10,000 people a day, Minh said, adding that this year’s event is expected to be five-times larger.

The department will also hold a forum on educational investment and cooperation on June 27, where it will introduce its latest policies and guidelines designed to encourage private investment in the education sector.

Related government agencies’ representatives will also answer investors’ questions about the procedures for applying for new school licenses as well as municipal land, environment, tax and financial policies.
