In a press conference to review the exam organisation yesterday, Hien applauded that relevant sectors from central to local levels had joined with the education and training sector to prepare facilities and ensure safety conditions for the exams.

In the 2008-09 school year, more than 1 million high school students nation-wide had to take six tests in literature, mathematics, physics, biology, geography and foreign languages in 2,399 locations.

Compared to 2008, the number of students quitting the exams and the number of students getting in traffic accidents were lower. There were 5,604 students who did not take part in the exams, 3,000 lower than last year, while 73 students got into accidents, 11 cases less than last year.

Particularly, thanks to closer inspections, the number of students violating exam regulations this year was three times lower that in 2008. Only 299 students were asked to stop participating in the exams, while only one supervisor was temporarily suspended, compared to 15 cases in 2008. There was also no serious cheating.
