While students have not yet had time to enjoy their summer holidays, extra classes and schools have opened already, and students are flocking to them.

Some schools, including Le Van Tam and Nguyen Gia Thieu, have opened classes that gather students to prepare for the exams to enter 6^th-grade English intensive classes with ‘heavy schedules’.

Nguyen Khuyen Private School has even officially asked all of next year’s students to attend summer classes to get used to the school’s culture.

Local education departments released documents that summer classes were not allowed to be opened until July. In addition, teaching lessons of the coming school year is prohibited.

However, demand has overridden regulation.

A man whose son is now learning at Nguyen Dinh CHieu street in HCM City complained that he and his wife do not know where to send their son on summer days when they are at work. Therefore, he registered for summer classes for his son which opened on June 16 and will finish on August 14.

Vu Thi T.N, who has a daughter entering 11^th grade, said that she wants to bring the girl to summer classes because she wants her to catch up with her friends.

Nguyen Thi Thu in Hanoi related that her daughter will go to 8^th grade after summer. Her teacher said that the curriculum is very heavy; therefore, she wants to send her to classes to review lessons and learn new knowledge. The girl has two literature and two mathematics lessons and one foreign language lesson a week, for which she has to pay 500,000 dong.

Mai Thuy, who lives in Cau Giay district, related that her son is going into 9^th grade at Giang Vo Secondary School and he has gone to summer classes since July 1. In principle, students go to the classes on a voluntary basis, but no parent dares refuse summer classes. It is simply because students will learn knowledge beforehand, and those who do not attend the classes, will lag behind classmates.

H.D, a woman in Tan Binh district in HCM City, complained that right after the school year finished in May, the teacher gave a schedule of summer classes at the teachers’ home and invited students to attend the classes.

In front of Le Van Tam Secondary School, H.N, a girl was seen waiting for her parents to pick her up after the writing practicing lesson.

- I practice writing in the morning and then learn mathematics and Vietnamese language with the teacher who comes to my home to teach. I go to English class in district 10 in the evening.

- Where have you been this summer?

- My parents say I will only be able to go to the beach if I can write well.

An 11^th-grade student of Vietnam-Germany High School in Hanoi said that she has never had a summer holiday. At extra classes, she and her classmates have nearly finished the curriculum for the first semester of 12^th grade already.
