VietNamNet Bridge – MOET has announced the floor mark of 13 for A-group and D-group university exams, and 14 for B-group and C group exams.

The floor mark is the minimum mark takers of university entrance exams must have to be eligible to be enrolled in university. However, this does not mean that all the students who get marks higher than the floor marks will get into universities: they need to have the marks required by the universities they apply for.

The floor marks for junior colleges are three marks lower than the floor marks for universities.

Right after MOET announced the floor marks, universities announced their required marks for students.

The statistics show that 210,000 students of A-group got marks higher than the floor mark, while the figures are 97,000 for B-group, 44,000 for C-group and nearly 53,000 for D-group.

Approximately 1.2 million students sat for the university entrance exams and 300,000 students took the exams to enter junior colleges. Meanwhile, universities plan to enroll 143,000 students who took A-group exams, 28,000 B-group, 22,000 C-group and 44,000 D-group, while the figure for other groups is 14,000.

The floor marks were 13 for A and D-group in 2008, and 14 for C-group and 15 for D-group.

The Information Technology Agency under the Ministry of Education and Training has released the list of 20 localities which recorded the highest achievements on the university entrance exams. Nam Dinh is first, while Hanoi, which has led in recent years, falls to third behind Hung Yen.

According to Quach Tuan Ngoc, Head of the Information Technology Agency, it is understandable why Hanoi has fallen on the list of provinces and cities with high achievements on the university entrance exams. Hanoi has been merged with the former Ha Tay province. Ha Tay province was never listed among the top five provinces in university entrance exam achievements.

The agency has also released the list of 200 high schools which have students obtaining highest results on the university entrance exams. The specialised high-school classes under the Hanoi National University top the list.

The schools at the top of the 2008 list are also atop the 2009 list, but there have been big changes in the medium range. Some schools on the 2008 list have even disappeared from the 2009 list, namely Trieu Son High School in Thanh Hoa province and Giao Thuy A School in Nam Dinh.

The 2009 list shows the decline of gifted schools in provinces. For example, the gifted school in Kon Tum province, which ranked 55th in 2008, has fallen to 112th on the 2009 list.

The merger of Ha Tay province into Hanoi has helped improve the grade of Nguyen Hue city Gifted School by 20 grades. Some people-founded schools still maintain their high positions, including Luong The Vinh (Hanoi) and Nguyen Khuyen in HCM City.
