LookAtVietnam – More than 14,800 disabled children across the country now have access to kindergarten education,

Disabled children at the Sao Mai Centre in central Khanh Hoa province. More than 14,800 disabled children have gained access to kindergartens across the country.

Results from the State project launched three years ago on education integration for disabled kindergarteners were presented in the meeting.

The management system for integrated education for disabled children has been established nationwide, said director of the Pre-school Education Department Le Minh Ha. However, Ha stressed that there were still many hurdles to be overcome.

HCM City, and provinces such as Vinh Long, Long An, Binh Duong and Quang Nam were among those with the best results.

Representatives from 15 provinces all agreed that the awareness by children’s families, especially those families whose children had severe disabilities, remained low. Many teachers were also not well prepared in how to adequately care for these children.

Most representatives suggested that the Government should have a special education programme for disabled children, so that it would be easier for teachers to work with and teach the students. They also suggested a further training programme for teachers on integration education.
