LookAtVietnam – The Ministry of Education and Training will award full scholarships to study abroad for the first time.
The ministry would also grant scholarships to students with top marks in each of the categories for fields of study categorised as A, B, C, D and V, said Nguyen Xuan Vang, director of the ministry’s International Education Development Department. In the university entrance exams, students can take part in Group A (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry), Group B (Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology), Group C (Literature, History and Geography), Group D (Mathematics, Literature and Foreign Languages) and Group V (Literature and Drawing). “If there are some students with the highest marks in one group, we will consider their studying results and extracurricular activities at high schools and interview them. Then we will choose the most excellent one,” said Vang. To meet study abroad English standards, students must also be able to get a mark of 550 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEPL), or mark 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). “If students cannot speak English, they can study in other countries, including China or France, and they will have one year to study languages of those countries,” said Vang. Students who did not want to study abroad this year can reserve their exam results at most two years more, he said. “This October we will announce the specific plans of the scholarships,” Vang said. Vo Thi Mai Huong, who comes from the central province of Quang Tri and got mark 30 in the entrance exams for the Foreign Trade University, said: “I am really happy when hearing about the scholarship. I have dreamt about it since I was small.” Huong said that she would try to get high IELTS scores. VietNamNet/Viet Nam News |
