LookAtVietnam – The Hanoi National University of Economics has just won the championship of Vietnam SIFE National Competition, and thus will represent Vietnam to compete

Winners of the Vietnam SIFE National Competition pose with the championship trophy.

The National Competition, which wrapped up last Friday, saw the Hanoi-based school beat competitors from four other universities to win the prize. The HCMC University of Economics was named first runner-up in the competition also attended by Foreign Trade University, Hanoi Campus, Foreign Trade University, HCMC Campus, and RMIT HCMC.

Coming to SIFE National Competition, these five SIFE teams presented the output of their projects implemented during the year. These projects were mainly educational in which students had to apply their knowledge learned in universities to train the community, help them understand how the market operates and how to improve their existing business and change their lives.

“Universities and students were incredibly passionate about it. We would have to say it was a great result from many angles – the enthusiasm of the students, the quality of the sponsors, the support of the universities,” Warrick Cleine, managing partner of KPMG Vietnam, told the Daily.

“The spirit of entrepreneurship and desire to contribute to their community is a natural one, and the students from both Hanoi and HCMC demonstrated this in equal measure. Students prepared these projects in their own time, while they were also pursuing full time university study and (for some) part time jobs. What a fantastic commitment they made,” said Warrick, who was one among 30 executives served on Final Round Judge Panel of SIFE National Competition.

SIFE World Cup 2009, which will take place in Berlin, Germany, from October 4-5, will be the first competition Vietnam attends. This year’s World Cup will see over 40 teams from over 40 different countries around the world.

Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Indochina and co-chair of SIFE Vietnam advisory board and also a judge of the competition, said, “I do hope that SIFE will be one of the organizations that will contribute to the development of young talents for Vietnam and for their integration into the globalized world.”

Meanwhile, Tran Kim Thanh, chairman of Kinh Do Corporation as one of the financial sponsors of the competition, said “I do believe that SIFE is a good environment for the young talents who have opportunities to show their knowledge and abilities to become future leaders.”
