LookAtVietnam – Schools will have to learn to live with H1N1 and maintain lessons, according to the Hanoi education department.

He added students could be absent from schools if they are sick, but they must follow the regulations on the days-off set by schools. He stressed schools will not take responsibility for teaching curriculum if students have more days off than allowed.

The Hanoi Education and Training Department information shows that by October 6, Hanoi had seen 114 schools with instances of H1N1. Most of the schools are located in Dong Da, Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, Thanh Xuan and Tu Liem districts.

The city’s education department has instructed schools not to conceal information about flu at their schools and instead to make it public while students, who are infected with H1N1, must not go to school.

On discovering H1N1 infected students must be isolated, while classes must be sprayed with chemicals for sterilising.

The request for honesty and openness regarding the flu epidemic was made after students’ parents denounced schools for concealing information.

Parents of Kim Lien Primary School in Dong Da district on September 24 complained that four students contracted flu, but no one knew about it and took no precautious.

“We did not hear anything from teachers about the infected students and we did not see any notice on the school’s notice board. We must be informed about the flu epidemic,” said Thu, a woman who has a daughter learning at Kim Lien school.

The Hanoi education department said that if many schools are closed because of it would badly affect teaching and learning programmes. It has asked schools to cooperate closely with healthcare agencies to deal with the epidemic while maintaining normal learning.
