ADB helps Vietnam improve secondary education

The Asian Development Bank on Tuesday signed an agreement to loan Vietnam US$60 million for a secondary education development program through 2015

With a total investment of $71 million, $11 million of which has been contributed by the Vietnamese government, the plan will help develop new national standards for secondary schools while aiming to improve the quality of teachers and establish a national accreditation board among other missions.

The Ministry of Education and Training will execute the project, which is set to be completed in June 2015, ADB said in the statement.

According to the Manila-based bank, Vietnam’s economy is demanding a growing number of secondary-school graduates with improved analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

However, the country’s secondary education sector faces shortcomings due to widespread inconsistencies in the education system’s quality, according to ADB.
