LookAtVietnam – A particularly interesting competition took place on January 30 and 31 between a chess great master and 65 students from primary schools in Hanoi.

This was a very attractive competition because the competitors were so well known: the International Great Master Nguyen Anh Dung competed with 65 students from prominent schools such as Le Quy Don, Doan Thi Diem, Cat Linh, Nguyen Binh Khiem and VIP International Schools. Small kids from Hoa Anh Dao, Just Kids and KinderWord Kindergartens also participated.

The competition, like many others, was very tense. The most excellent competitor, chosen by the Great Master Nguyen Anh Dung himself, got the reward of the campaign medal of the “learning chess with masters” and a scholarship worth 1.2 million dong. The prize winner was Nguyen Son Tung from 5A Class of Cat Linh School and Ngo Duc Thanh from Le Quy Don School

Awards were also given to Hoang Duc Anh, 7, from Le Quy Don School, and Dang Hai Ngoc, 6, from Nghia Tan School, who were the ones who held out the longest against the great master (one hour and 20 minutes).

Afterwards, the young competitors had opportunities to talk with Dung. A lot of interesting questions were raised, such as “Teacher, please tell me how can I defeat you” and “Have you ever been defeated by someone else?”

The great master said that he was surprised by so many cute questions from the small kids and he tried to give answers in the most humorous way.

“Learning chess with masters” is a club organized by Vietnam Chessleader Company. This is the first club of its kind in Vietnam, aiming to help children develop logical ways of thinking and providing them with many necessary skills.
