Danang attracts excellence through “winning” methods

LookAtVietnam – It is too early to say that Da Nang has the ideal method for bringing in talent, but it deserves recognition and study.

Between 2000-2008, Danang invited and welcomed six doctors, 90 Master’s and 260 university graduates with excellent results to work in the city. That’s impressive for just eight years.

In addition to many attractive perks, including accommodations, stable income and allowances, Danang promises to offer good working environments, which, in the eyes of graduates, is the most important factor in their decision to move.

The story of a teacher

Three years ago, Teacher Tran Van Vu and his wife, Nguyen Thi Hanh, both with Master’s degrees, left Thanh Hoa province for Danang to seek jobs under the city’s program on attracting talented individuals.

Vu quickly completed the necessary procedures to take a teaching job at Le Quy Don Gifted School, one of the most famous schools in Vietnam.

“It took me just a little time to be employed at Le Quy Don School. The procedures were very simple,” Vu commented, adding that his wife is now a teacher of Hoang Hoa Tham High School.

Vu heard about Danang’s policy in 2006 when he traveled to the city. After his trip, Vu and his wife decided to leave Thanh Hoa, where they had a good home and both held stable jobs at Lam Son Gifted School and Hong Duc University to go to Danang.

“After I talked to Huynh Van Hoa, Director of the Danang Education and Training Department, I made a prompt decision to work in Danang,” Vu related.

“I find the working environment here is very good and friendly, a place where we are respected by city leaders, Vu stated. “We are working for the common goal of developing the city’s education.”

Everyone can be a leader

“Everyone can be a leader” are the words of Danang Department of Interior Affairs Director Dang Cong Ngu, speaking about the project on organizing competitions to select leaders, a part of the strategy to lure intellectuals to Danang.

The project implemented competitions to select leaders in the last few years and has helped Danang to choose enterprising staff. Teacher Le Trung Chinh became Headmaster of Thai Phien High School after he joined the competition. Chinh, who proved his abilities, is now Headmaster of Le Quy Don Gifted School.

Danang has successfully selected people for 30 important posts in the city’s agencies by organizing these competitions.

When asked why he decided to settle in Danang instead of Hanoi or HCM City, Vu replied that he knows he would have a higher income in Hanoi or HCM City, but he thinks that Danang’s working environment is very good, ensuring a more stable future.

“The opportunity of working at one of the best schools in Vietnam makes me enthusiastic,” Vu responded. “I know many people will not leave even if they cannot get good pay, but they will surely leave if they do not have a good environment in which to devote themselves,” Vu said.

Vu and his wife have refused invitations to teach at some universities in Hanoi.
