LookAtVietnam – There will no longer be a Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted School. The school’s name change will be decided by management agencies and the school itself.

There will be a gifted school in Hanoi, but it will be located on a five hectare land plot on Tran Duy Hung street. Meanwhile, the facilities of the current Hanoi-Amsterdam gifted school will be handed over to another school.

Leaders of the Hanoi Education and Training Department and the Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted School (Ams) have discussed the organization and the name of the school.

Two options were offered. With Option 1, all teachers, officers and students will move to the new Tran Duy Hung Street location and discuss the new name of the school. With Option 2, a completely new gifted school would be established after re-assigning some gifted schools and teachers from other schools to the new one.

Nguyen Hiep Thong, Chief Secretariat of the Hanoi Education and Training Department told VietNamNet that in the first option, the new school may be named “Hanoi Gifted School.”

Two years ago, the city decided to invest more than one trillion dong to build the school. “The five hectare land plot on Tran Duy Hung Street is really the most beautiful land plot ever allocated to a school in the history of Hanoi,” Thong boasted.

The new school has 45 classrooms where 1,800 gifted students will study both in the mornings and afternoons. There will be nine specific rooms reserved for training competition teams, a 200-seat lecture hall, a 700-seat hall, laboratories, function rooms, a warm water swimming pool, a 200-seat library and a boarding house for 300 students.

All the design and construction have been carried out by Hanoians, therefore, the school must be named after Hanoi, Thong stressed.

He went on to say that the school will be inaugurated on the occasion of 1000^th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, which will make the event even more significant.

Amsers agree

According to Thong, many teachers and students of the Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted School want to keep the current name since it has become a prestigious label not only in Vietnam, but also in the world.

However, Thong explained, if option two is chosen, Hanoi-Amsterdam will still exist, but a big part of the school will move to the new location and Amsers will not have the chance to enjoy the modern facilities.

Hanoi-Amsterdam Gifted School leaders finally decided on the first option and suggested naming the new school as “Hanoi Gifted School.”

Meanwhile, the material facilities of the current Hanoi Amsterdam School will be handed over to Nguyen Trai High School.
