LookAtVietnam – Thirty five advanced university training curriculums will be provided at 20 universities nationwide in 2010.

Advanced curriculums will cover a wide range of training fields, including basic sciences (mathematics, chemistry, polytechnic, environment, economics and architecture).

According to Huong, advanced curriculums to be applied in Vietnam are to be designed by training establishments themselves based on original curriculums applied by advanced universities worldwide. Teaching will be carried out in English. Besides, students will also have to learn political sciences as compulsory subjects as per request by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam.

In order to be recognized as “advanced curriculums”, the original curriculums must be taken from training curriculums of universities listed among the 200 leading universities in the world.

The curriculums need to be among the 20 percent of the best curriculums recognized by prestigious organizations. Besides, curriculums need to fit the capability of the Vietnamese universities which plan to apply them.

Lecturers must have a masters degree at least to be eligible for teaching under advanced curriculums. They also must have professional knowledge and English knowledge good enough to fulfill the task of teaching.

In order to be selected to study under advanced curriculums, students must pass entrance exams to the regular University training schemes and have English knowledge good enough to meet the requirements. They must spontaneously register to follow advanced curriculums and pay tuition fees as required by the training establishments.

In the first training courses, advanced curriculums will still receive assistance from the State budget in training expenses, and trainers only have to pay tuition fees equal to 15 percent of the total expected training expenses. However, tuition fees for advanced curriculums are always higher than that for normal training schemes.

The average time needed to carry out an advanced curriculum is between four and a half and five years, including the first year when students get intensive English lessons. University degrees can be granted by Vietnamese universities or granted by both Vietnamese and foreign universities.
