LookAtVietnam – AEI in Vietnam confirmed that no Vietnamese student are studying at eight Australian schools which have to shut down.

Representative of AEI said that the eight schools are all private run schools which teach English. It is estimated that 2,300 students from different countries and territories are studying here.

Brazil proves to be the country with the highest number of students here (500 students), followed by Thailand with 190 students.

The eight schools are located in different areas in Australia which belong to GEOS Group headquartered in Japan.

The financial crisis has been cited as the main reason that has made GEOS which owns many schools worldwide suffer heavily.

According to The Age, students in Melbourne have suffered most with 530 students unable to fulfill their training courses. Some students have nearly finished training courses with just one week to go. 390 school officers have lost jobs.

The Age interviewed Vladimir Anelekov, 31, a student from Russian, who planned to finish his training course in just two weeks in Melbourne. He said on the newspaper that he feels very anxious and he does not know where to seek assistance.

Marcio Alves, 33, a student from Brazil said on The Age that he paid $4,000 dollar in tuition and he was expecting to finish the course in five weeks. He complained that he had to work to save money for one year in Brazil to get enough money to attend the training course.

The problem with GEOS came just a short time after Meridian, a Chinese group, collapsed in November 2009, pushing 3,000 students in Melbourne and Sydney into dilemma.

Under the current laws, if a school in Australia shuts down, its students can apply for similar training courses in other schools or get back tuitions.
