Apart from English courses at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the
SCP also provides courses in economic development, trade and tourism promotion,
urban and environment development, public heath, solutions to emergency and
disaster, civil aviation, road, transport and port management.

Initiated by the Singaporean government in 1992, the programme aims to support
vocational training for developing countries worldwide. In the ASEAN bloc,
Vietnam is one of the largest partners of Singapore with over 300 students in Ho
Chi Minh alone.

At a meeting with former students in the city on Jan. 21, Pong Kok Tian said
that Ho Chi Minh City would experience an increase in the number of students as
the programme would last for the next three years.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Rum, director of the municipal Department of Culture, Sports
and Tourism and chairman of the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association
affirmed that thousands of Vietnamese students have made remarkable
contributions to the country’s socio-economic development in their return as
well as strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.
