High school students do not have any days to relax after they finished the final exams, because they have to gear up to prepare for the university entrance exams to be held in early July.

Students flocking to big cities

Right after returning from high school final exams, students have been preparing for the university entrance exams, which are considered the most important exams in the lives of many people. First groups of students have flocked to big cities, where they can sit exam preparation classes.

On June 5, a group of seven students from Ham Thuan Nam in Binh Thuan province was led by their parents to the HCM City University of Education’s Exam Preparation Center, where they registered to take the intensive training classes opened on June 6.

Tran Thi Thuy, one of the seven parents, said that everything has been arranged already. Before her son went to the high school final exams, she called a relative, who is now studying in HCM City, and asked him to rent a room for her son in the city, where her son will stay during the time he attends the exam preparation classes in HCM City.

“My son only had one night at home after he finished the high school final exams. We got up early the next morning, left home at 6 am and arrived in 11 am,” she said.

In fact, Thuy does not know which university the son wants to study at. She just knows that this is a foreign language school. “My son needs to attend tutoring classes as soon as possible,” she said. “I told him to try his best to prepare for the exams. He will have much time to relax after he finishes both the exams”.

The two students, who arrived in the Mien Dong Coach Station in HCM City at 11 am of June 5, said that they are from Phuoc Long Town in Binh Phuoc province, and that their parents could not go together with them. This is the first time the two girls go to the city. The baggage seemed to be heavy: there were many textbooks, pots, mini gas cookers and other necessary things.

Realizing that students want to begin preparing for the university entrance exams as soon as possible, the HCM City Student Support Center has soon launched the “strength giving campaigns” in order to help students from other provinces find rooms to rent and exam preparation classes to attend.

Ngo Thi Giang, Head of the 30-member team of the center, said that on June 5, 70 students from other provinces got the support from the team at the Mien Dong Coach Station. The students come from Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Dong Nai.

Similarly, at the Mien Tay Coach Station, Nguyen Van Nu, a head of another team, said that in the morning of June 5, his team gave support to 20 students from Tien Giang and Ben Tre.

Exam preparation centers getting bustling

June 5 was Sunday, but the registration offices at some exam preparation centers in HCM City were still full of people. Two officers at the HCM City University of Education’s exam preparation center had to have meals and accept the registrations at the same time.

Mai Chau, an officer of the center, said that about 500 students registered the classes which opened on June 6.

“About 100 students came directly on June 5 to make registrations, while other students registered many days before,” she said.

According to Ngo Thien, MA, Director of the HCM City Agriculture and Forestry University’s education center, about 100 students registered classes on June 5, while he expects the number of students to increase in some more days. The students of the centers can stay at the school’s dormitories.

An officer of the Vinh Vien University Entrance Exam Center said that of the classes which opened on June 6; all have been fully occupied.
