Viettel deploys 4G nationwide
Published: 18/03/2017 02:35
As from Thursday, the military-run telecommunications group (Viettel) has set up nearly 18,000 4G base transceiver stations (BTSs), bringing the technology to 704 districts in 63 provinces and cities, including districts in 25 border provinces after over 4 months of officially deploying.
Specifically, more than 100 districts in the border areas in 25 provinces including Loc Binh, Muong Nhe, Sin Ho, Meo Vac and Quan Ba had access to the 4G network. A Viettel technician works in a hard weather condition to install BTS for 4G infrastructure. At present, Viettel has set up nearly 18.000 4G base transceiver stations, in the end of this month, this number will be 28.000 over the country. VNPT and Vinaphone, 2 rivals of Viettel, have also tried to bring BTS 4G into large provinces and cities. Vinaphone is the first network operator opening commercial 4G network in Vietnam (November 03, 2016) but 4G Vinaphone at that time only covered Phu Quoc District, Kien Giang. As in plan, 4G Vinaphone will be also covered widely in the end of this month. Meanwhile, MobiFone still takes no action in the 4G race in Vietnam. Recently, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Minister, Chief Government Office Mai Tien Dung have required network operators to provide real BTS 4G, 3G+ is not accepted. Minister of Information and Communication Truong Minh Tuan, in the visit and offering 4G deploying certificate for Viettel, also demanded this network operator public 4G service quality, especially minimum speed for each service pack deployed.
