The chairman of Vietnam’s major state-owned coal mining company has resigned after being censured for slack management, newswire VnExpress reported.

Doan Van Kien, chairman of Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group, submitted his letter of resignation to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Wednesday, according to Le Tuan Minh, the company’s standing secretary.

The government would consider Kien’s decision after receiving the resignation letter, VnExpress cited Government Office Chief Nguyen Xuan Phuc as saying Thursday morning.

Kien was censured by the Communist Party’s investigation department on September 4 for mismanagement, causing losses of millions tons of coal, according to the newswire.

The mining group, also known as Vinacomin, exploits the world’s third-largest bauxite reserves, estimated at 5.4 billion tons, according to Bloomberg.
