The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced a 60 trillion dong (US$3.27 billion) stimulus package for farmers that focuses on investment in infrastructure and exports.

The money will be poured into developing infrastructure like irrigation works, dykes, equipment, and facilities for agriculture.

Spending on irrigation will double to 8 trillion dong to help quickly finish and put construction projects into use.

A new system of grain storage facilities with a capacity of around 2.8 million tonnes will be built by 2020 and existing facilities will be improved at a total cost of 100 billion dong (US$5.6 million).

The ministry has asked the Government to allocate an additional 1.46 trillion dong to forest growing projects for this year and 8.04 trillion dong for the next two years.

Around 500 billion dong will be invested in aquaculture to build national breeding centres, irrigation, and fishing ports.

The ministry has also asked for a 50 percent cut in import duty on animal feed and raw materials for making animal feed, and abolition or reduction of export tax to below 10 percent on wood products.
