Tropical storm Ketsana strengthened to a typhoon as it headed across the South China Sea after leaving more than 100 people dead in the Philippines and is forecast to hit the coast of Vietnam Tuesday.

The eye of Ketsana was about 565 kilometers (351 miles) east of the city of Hue city, at 7 a.m. Vietnamese time Monday, according to the US Navy Joint Typhoon Warning center. The storm’s maximum sustained winds were at 120 kilometers per hour as it moved west at 11 kph.

Ketsana’s winds are expected to strengthen to 139 kph within 24 hours, the center said. It’s forecast to cross the coast southeast of Hue late Tuesday.

The storm left at least 103 people dead in the Philippines when it crossed Luzon two days ago, causing floods in the capital, Manila, that forced thousands to evacuate their homes.

Ketsana is the name of a tree in Laos, according to the Hong Kong Observatory, which list names in use for Pacific storms on its website.
