Koppu to make downpour in VN’s northern mountainous region

LookAtVietnam – Koppu, the 8th storm of the year in the East Sea has entered China but it will cause downpours in the northeastern and the northern mountainous region of Vietnam.

According to the National Hydrometeorology Forecast Centre, the storm moved into China’s Guangdo province on September 15 and begun to weaken. At noon September 15, its eye was around 300km to the East-Northeast of Vietnam’s Quang Ninh province. The strongest wind speed was at level 9.

In the next 12 hours, the storm moved 20km per hour to the West-Northwest and became a tropical depression.

In the morning of September 16, the tropical depression was around 200km to the East-Northeast of Vietnam’s northern mountainous province of Cao Bang, with the strongest wind of level 8.

The tropical depression is forecast to be around 140km to the northeast of Ha Giang – Cao Bang provinces at noon September 16.

Under the impacts of this storm, the northern part of the Tonkin Gulf has wind at level 6. The northern mountainous region will have downpours of 100-200mm.

In an urgent request sent to northern provinces on September 15, the Central Flood and Storm Control Steering Board told them to be aware of landslides and flash floods.
