A landslide has blocked a stretch of the highway connecting the central province of Quang Nam with Da Nang City since September 3.

A 700m stretch in Doc Kien in Da Nang is under hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of soil and stones that slid down the slopes in this mountainous region following heavy rains.

Vehicles now require to travel an extra 130 kilometers as a result though many ignore the serious danger involved and pass over one kilometer of blocked road.

Nguyen Van Sao from a Da Nang-based company that has been hired to clear the road said around 80,000 out of 100,000 cubic meters of soil on the road. But landslips are continuing to occur to block the road, he said.

Heavy rains in Da Nang and Quang Nam are not helping the clean-up either.

Elsewhere, rains in the past few days also caused landslides at many sections of the road from Ho Chi Minh Highway to the central highlands province of Kon Tum.
