MOET focuses on education for disadvantaged youths
Published: 04/09/2009 05:00
LookAtVietnam – The Ministry of Education and Training has asked all provincial and municipal education departments to increase training for disadvantaged school children,
For primary school pupils from ethnic minority groups, the ministry has instructed all education departments to encourage parents of local children aged between ages 4-5 to send them to nursery school so they can learn Vietnamese. The directive requires education departments to increase the number of Vietnamese classes for 1st year pupils from 350 to 500 and to combine Vietnamese classes with other subjects, extracurricular activities and cultural exchanges. In regards to street children, the departments will hold classes with flexible curriculums and schedules suitable for each area. The curriculum will focus on Vietnamese, math, reading, writing and arithmetic. For pupils with disabilities, departments will focus on encouraging the children’s efforts and progress and ensuring their right to care and a quality education. The ministry will use every available resource to assist primary school teachers and disabled pupils to learn alongside able-bodied peers. In the 2009-2010 academic year, northern Ninh Binh and central Quang Nam provinces have been chosen to carry out a pilot project for junior secondary school pupils with disabilities to study at conventional schools. The departments are also responsible for instructing all junior and senior secondary schools to facilitate disabled students’ pursuit of vocational training or higher education. VietNamNet/VNA
