Central provinces have asked to brace themselves for a tropical low pressure which is expected to strengthen into a storm in the East Sea on September 26.

At 13.00 on September 25, the depression system was located at 14.2 degrees north latitude and 127.4 degrees east longitude, about 330 km east of the Philippine coast. It was packing winds of between 50-61km per hour near its centre.

In the next 24 hours, the weather pattern will move between west and north-west at a speed of 15-20km and is expected to strengthen into a storm. On September 27, the storm is forecast to move into the East Sea and continue to gain its category.

In a telegram issued on September 25, the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control asked central coastal provinces from Thanh Hoa to Binh Thuan and relevant ministries to inform fishing vessel owners about the latest developments of the tropical low pressure system to escape danger areas. These provinces were also asked to be well prepared for the storm if required.

In another development, whirlwinds accompanied by heavy rains blew off the roofs of more than 50 houses and public works including schools in the central province of Nghe An on September 25. Seven fishing boats capsized and many big trees were brought down in the affected communes of Nghi Thiet and Nghi Quang. Luckily, no one was injured.
