The Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Company said Tuesday its subsidiary was responsible for the electrocution death of a 10-year-old boy in District 6 on Sunday.

The firm said the boy was electrocuted by a power leak from a ground wire installed improperly and its subsidiary Binh Phu Electricity, which oversees power supplies in the district, had to take responsibility.

The firm suspended a top official of Binh Phu Electricity Tuesday and was investigating the case further to assess the role of other staff members in the accident.

Tran Trung Huy was playing football with three friends as it rained in an alley on Sunday afternoon when he was electrocuted. He was dead on arrival at District 6 Hospital.

Following the accident, Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Company said it would carry out a city-wide inspection to check the safety of its power systems.

Late last month, a 13-year-old boy in District 5 died of electrocution due to a power leak from a street lamp post after heavy rains.
