The Deputy Director of HCM City’s Binh Phu District Power Division has resigned after a fifth grader in District 6 was electrocuted on September 27.

The boy, 10, was playing football in the rain with a group of kids when he was electrocuted by pylons.

According to inspectors, workers of the Binh Phu District Power Division wrongly connected electrical wires causing the death of this boy. As a result the division has had to accept responsibility.

One day after the accident occurred, Ngo Van Ly, deputy director of Binh Phu District Power Division and chief of the power grid installation project in Binh Phu District stepped down.

It follows the HCM City Power Company’s decision to temporarily suspend the pair.

Earlier this year, on August 31, an eighth grader from District 5 was electrocuted at an intersection while simply steeping onto a pavement to avoid floods.

HCM City has set up 20 inspection groups to check the entire power grid and electrical equipment throughout the city in early October.
