Three boat passengers were killed Thursday and one was still missing as of Friday after heavy winds sunk a tourist boat on Vietnam’s picturesque Hạ Long Bay of Quang Ninh Province.

Rescuers found the bodies, including two foreigners and a local guide, Friday morning.

A Vietnamese tourist was still missing, said Pham Van Truong, an immigration police officer in the province.

“We are trying to identify the nationalities of these two foreigners but it will take us time because there were no documents left on their bodies,” AFP on Friday cited Truong as saying.

Seven injured tourists from Australia, France and the US were admited to nearby Bay Chay Hospital but were released on Friday, said the hospital’s director Vu Xuan Dien.

The boat was carrying 32 people including 14 foreigners, 10 Vietnamese tourists, the guide and seven crewmen of the Bien Mo Company that owned the Quang Ninh-registered ship, police said.

Quang Ninh authorities are searching for the missing person and planning to salvage the boat.

Halong Bay, located in the East Sea about 160 kilometres (100 miles) east of Hanoi, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994.

Last year 2.65 million tourists including 1.71 million foreigners visited Halong Bay, according to the provincial tourism department.
