A tropical depression has taken shape off the coast of Quang Nam and Quang Nga provinces.

The tropical depression was around 170 kilometers east of the Quang Nam – Quang Ngai coast on the afternoon of September 3. The wind speed at the centre was Level 9 (88-102 kilometers per hour).

It is forecast that the tropical depression will get stronger and move slowly. The sea from Quang Tri to Binh Dinh provinces and the Hoang Sa (Paracels) Archipelago will have downpours and level 7 winds (up to 87 kph).

Downpours from Quang Binh south to Quang Ngai province and in the Central Highlands are likely to trigger flash floods and landslides.

In addition, owing to southwestern monsoon, the middle and southern parts of the East Sea (also called the South China Sea) and the coast from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau will experience strong winds up to level 9.

The Central Steering Board for Flood and Storm Control on September 3 instructed coastal provinces to strictly control vessels and inform all boats about the tropical depression.

Delta and coastal provinces were told to prepare for flood prevention, especially in residential areas.

The board also instructed the Central Highlands authorities to urgently check areas prone to flash floods and landslides and move endangered people to safe places.
