Sixteen people have been killed, injured or still missing due to the effects of a tropical low pressure front in the region.

The Central and Central Highland Centre for Storm and Flood Control announced on September 7 that 16 people have been killed, injured or still missing due to the effects of a tropical low pressure front in the region.

The 16 people included two from Da Nang, two from Thu Thien Hue city, seven from Quang Ngai and five from Gia Lai.

The almost 100 houses, schools and medical clinics were damaged and 11 irrigation works were swept away along with more than 61 tonnes of farmed fish and shrimp. Nearly 20,000 ha of rice and subsidiary crops, including more than 4,300 ha in Quang Tri and 3,200 ha in Quang Nam were submerged.

Quang Nam has estimated its losses at more than VND20 billion.

Water levels in rivers between Quang Binh and Ninh Thuan have moderately fluctuated over the affected period.

The regional Centre for Storm and Flood Control has instructed the Flood and Storm Control Steering Committees from Quang Binh to Ninh Thuan province to keep in contact with and inform ships at sea of the tropical depression’s course.

The committee has asked people to evacuate from the flooded areas and areas prone to landslides.
