Vietnam didn’t take any medal at the 40th World Professional Skills Competition in Canada but it claimed five certificates.

Students of the Hanoi Industrial University.

The professional skills certificates were in the fields of information technology, cooking, mechanics-electronics and industrial electronics. This year Vietnam won four more certificates than at the previous competition.

To get the certificates, contestants had to have at least 500 points. Chu Tien Dung from the HCM City Industrial University attained 520 points, the highest level among Vietnamese contestants, in the IT competition. Nguyen Van Hoa and Le Minh Bang from the HCM City-based Hung Vuong Technology School took 514 points.

Dao Van Tien from the General Department of Vocational Training said that with five certificates, Vietnam ranked 30th of 46 delegations. First place went to South Korea and second was Japan.

The competition attracted 900 contestants, including ten from Vietnam, competing in 49 fields of competition, including IT, web design, restaurant service, cooking, mechanics-electronics, carpentry, industrial electricity, civil electronics and refrigeration engineering.

Vietnam sent eight workers to the 39th competition in Japan in 2007 and it won only one certificate for electrical system installation.
