Two boys from southern Vietnam, aged 10 and 11, died of electrocution in two separate accidents on Sunday.

The 10-year-old Tran Trung Huy and three of his friends were playing football as it rained in an alley in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 6 at 5 p.m. on Sunday when he was electrocuted.

“We were playing football. Suddenly we heard a big shout and saw Huy lying near a power pole,” said 16-year old Duong Vo Toan.

Toan and his friends immediately called Huy’s parents, who then rushed to the scene and took Huy to the District 6 Hospital. But the boy was dead on arrival, doctors said.

There was a leak in the power line somewhere between the top of the pole and the point at which the wires go underground, Tuoi Tre reported, without citing sources.

At about 6 a.m. that morning in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, residents found 11-year-old boy La Van Hau dead with his hand still gripping a zinc wire fence.

Police said the boy had touched the wire, which was electrified by leakage from a power line connecting his neighbor’s house with a power pole, while using a slingshot to shoot birds.

Late last month, 13-year-old boy Co Quoc Duy died of electrocution due to a power leak from a street lamp post after heavy rains.

Duy and two of his school mates were riding their bicycles along Tran Hung Dao Street at 7:20 p.m. on August 31 when, according to District 5 police, they rode through a puddle of water and were shocked by a power leak from a curbside pole.

Duy was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. His friends survived.
