Cost of parking to be regulated
Published: 08/10/2009 05:00
LookAtVietnam – Ha Noi People’s Committee has just regulated fees for parking on city streets and near residential buildings.
Vehicles with more than nine seats parked in the four districts of Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Hai Ba Trung and Dong Da will now be assessed maximum fees of VND1.2 million (US$60) per month for round-the-clock parking. In other districts, the fees will be between VND875,000 abd VND1 million ($48.6-55.6) per month. For vehicles only being kept during the day or the night, the fees will be VND200,000-400,000 ($11-22) per month. Smaller vehicles will be assessed parking fees between VND400,000 and VND1million ($22.2-55.6) per month. Parking attendants are not allowed to raise the fees higher than what is regulated; the city’s Finance Department will be responsible for oversight. Le Thuy Mai, a Hanoian citizen, said due to the lack of official car lots, independent parking attendents are able to set the fees themselves. Mai now has to pay VND1 million per month for her four-seat car to be kept at night in Hoang Mai District’s Dinh Cong Urban Area. According to the Ha Noi Traffic Police Department, more than 200,000 are being parked around the city. The department also reported the same number of cars which were registered outside of Ha Noi, but regularly are driven in the city. However, the Ha Noi Parking Management Company, which is responsible for all parking in the city, currently manages only 130 car parking areas. The total 28ha area provides spaces for 7,000 cars, only 30 per cent of the city’s demand. The city’s land allotted for parking accounts for 0.45 per cent of city’s total area, while the international standard is 6 per cent. The car parking fees will be applied from today.
