“Our earnings are modest, but we love working as models,” one model observed. “I wish that people would not view people of our “third world” so strictly.”

One group member noted that it has been over one month since the Dem Vong Café in Hai Ba Trung District was barred from organizing the transsexual fashion shows because they lacked a fashion show license.

Since then, Pattaya has performed in northern provinces like Quang Ninh and Hai Duong instead of Hanoi.

In addition to the Dong Son restaurant show, Pattaya group will perform at a café in Hai Ba Trung district.

Pham Dinh Thang, the chief of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Performance Art Department, explained that all fashion shows must have a Ministry license and be censored.

“There is no rule that bans transsexual people from performing fashion,” Thang confirmed.
