LookAtVietnam – Veterinary officials in HCM City’s Binh Chanh district on Wednesday discovered 48 tonnes of imported chicken legs that did not meet sanitary standards

Veterinary officials in HCM City’s Binh Chanh district discovered 48 tonnes of imported chicken legs that did not meet sanitary standards.

Veterinary officials randomly opened eight boxes in the district’s Nhan Hoa warehouse and found chicken legs covered with hair, skin and nails, a violation of cooking safety regulations.

The Viet My Import-Export Logistics Ltd Company purchased the legs from the Polish company Landamasy Polska Co and transported the product into the city late last month via the Viet Nam International Container Terminals in District 7.

The Binh Chanh veterinary chapter conducted an inspection of the warehouse soon after their counterparts in District 8 seized 175 kilos of chicken legs stored in a district facility.

The company storing the chicken legs at the facility had purchased 50 boxes from the Viet My Company.

Dinh Thi Hong Hanh, head of the Binh Chanh veterinary chapter, said her inspection staff had failed to check any of the 50 boxes as they were supposed to do.

The boxes had been approved by Veterinary Zone II Administration officials at the seaport terminal after they arrived from Poland.

“Food that receives verification from us and will be transported to a cold warehouse means that it has passed standard checks,” Nguyen Xuan Binh, said director of the administration.

“I suspect that the importer had a mixture of boxes that met our sanitary standards and some that didn’t, since our veterinary staff took only three random samples for each cargo turn,” he added.

Thirty out of 50 boxes that were approved by the Binh Chanh chapter were later sold, according to the District 8 veterinary chapter.
