High tide floods Phu My Street in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City on Monday night.

Many streets in Ho Chi Minh City were flooded Monday night as the tide in the Saigon River rose to its highest level this year.

Nguyen Huu Canh Street in Binh Thanh District was submerged under more than 0.3 meters of water as water levels in the river rose higher than the 1.44 meter high predicted by hydrometeorology officials earlier on Monday.

Many motorbikes broke down on Huynh Tan Phat Street in District 7.

Commuters on Ung Van Khiem Street and many alleys that cross the street had to walk in knee-deep water while those on Ton That Thuyet Street in District 4 fell into holes as the street, which was more than 0.3 meters under water, was being dug up to install pipelines.

Street barriers worsened the traffic chaos caused by the flooding.

A total of 40 pumps were deployed to drain the water.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorology Station, the tides will continue to rise between 6:30 to 8:30 in the morning and between 7p.m. and 10 p.m. in the following days, but to lower levels of 1.42 meters and then 1.37 meters respectively.
