The Housing and Urban Development Corporation has been praised by President Nguyen Minh Triet for helping the Government deal with the shortage in accommodations

The corporation’s housing model has been copied in many localities all over the country.

The President has asked the corporation to keep expanding the urban housing model to other localities around the country and to uphold their leading role in overcoming difficulties in order to meet the increasing demand for housing in the country.

HUD would have to engage in more important tasks of building less expensive apartments for low-income workers, labourers and students, said Triet.

The Ministry of Construction has selected the company to set up the Viet Nam Housing and Urban Development Group because of its success over the past 20 years.

Established in 1989, the corporation was tasked to implement the Government’s goal of eliminating housing subsidies and to introduce housing developments that could be invested in or purchased.

The group’s first project was at the capital city’s southern entrance area. HUD built the city’s first comprehensive housing model, Bac (Northern) Linh Dam, which was a new urban centre. The project was followed by several other small housing projects in Dam Trai, Phuong Liet and Giap Bat. Bac Linh Dam has become a housing model for its comprehensive modern design. It was also voted as the representative architecture project from the country’s renovation period and Ha Noi’s 1,000th anniversary celebration. HUD’s trademark has become more popular in the housing market following its other successful projects of Dinh Cong, My Dinh II, Viet Hung, Van Quan and Phap Van-Tu Hiep.

After becoming a State-owned corporation in June 2000, HUD has extended its business in urban housing. It now has more than 20 projects in 20 provinces throughout the country. In Ha Noi alone, the company has built more than 2 million sq.m of housing, most of which were medium-priced condos.
