The family of a 13-year-old boy in Ho Chi Minh City who was electrocuted by a power leak from a lamp post said the Public Lighting Company apologized to them on Tuesday but they felt it was not sincere.

Co Quoc Hung said the lighting company had apologized but refused to accept legal responsibility for his son’s death, which happened more than a month ago, local newswire VietNamNet reported.

“You can’t behave so irresponsibly like this… I will follow the case until the end,” Hung told officials of the lighting company who visited the bereaved family on Tuesday.

The family filed a lawsuit last month against the Public Lighting Company on Saturday for causing the death of Co Quoc Duy. Duy was electrocuted on August 31 by a power leak from a curbside pole on Tran Hung Dao Street in District 5.

The lighting company on Tuesday offered financial support for Duy’s family but they refused, saying their only goal was to make the company’s officials take responsibility.

Following Duy’s death, the Public Lighting Company suspended two senior officials and the fate of higher-ranked officials was to be decided later by city authorities.

No official investigation results have been announced yet, local newswire VietNamNet reported.
