Shops sought for workers

LookAtVietnam – The HCM City administration has urged export-processing zones and industrial parks to build supermarkets within their premises to serve workers’ needs.
Nguyen Thi Hong, deputy chairwoman of the city People’s Committee, at a meeting with related agencies last Friday, told EPZ and IP authorities to work with the Department of Planning and Architecture and district authorities to find land for developing shopping malls. She also urged existing zones to make the full use of land for their production facilities to free up land for shopping malls. She instructed city agencies and EPZ and IP planners to include shopping facilities when designing new zones. “Authorities should pay more attention to workers and the business sector should treat their welfare as part of their social responsibilities,” she added. The HCM City People’s Committee has approved a plan to build dormitories for workers in the city’s export- processing zones, hi-tech parks and industrial parks. Eighteen dorms will provide about 91,730 rooms by 2015. The city will complete nine projects with a total construction area of 242,660sq.m, providing 24,026 rooms by the end of next year. The nine remaining projects cover an area of 555,190sq.m and will be carried out from 2011 to 2015. The committee has asked the district people’s committees to speed up construction of the projects and called for the participation of domestic enterprises. Apart from dormitory projects, the city will set aside 48ha of land in districts 2, 6, 9, Binh Tan, Thu Duc and Binh Chanh to build dorms with a total of 144,000 rooms. VietNamNet/Viet Nam News |
