By noon on October 5, typhoon Parma had moved west-southwest and may still threaten the Vietnamese coast in the next few days.

According to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre, on October 4, Parma started to have an impact on the northern part of the East Sea after the typhoon’s centre was located at the north-western part of Luzon island in the Philippines. The weather in the southern part of the East Sea and southern Vietnam turned cloudy.

Le Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the National Hydro Meteorological Forecast Centre, said that typhoon Parma had suddenly changed direction although the regional weather foresting centre predicted that Parma would have moved to the central part of Luzon island and Taiwan, not affecting the Vietnamese coast much at all.

Experts said that typhoon Parma changed its direction because another powerful storm called Melor has hit the eastern part of the Philippines. Parma is the 10th storm in the East Sea this year.

At present, the winds near the typhoon’s eye are estimated to be force 11 to 12 packing wind of 13 to 14 category. The storm is affecting an area with a 250-km radius from its eye.

The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has sent a telegram to the Ministries of National Defence, Police, and Transport and People’s Committees of coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Quang Ngai, asking them to inform fishermen about the position and direction of typhoon Parma so that they can sail back to shore safely.
