A ship carrying 700 tons of fuel burst into flames when it crashed into a barge on a Ho Chi Minh City river Thursday night, but the local fire brigade reported no casualties.

The accident occurred at the intersection of the Long Tau and the Dua rivers in Can Gio District as cargo ship Long Phu No.1 headed for the southern coastal province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau, the HCMC Fire Department said the same day.

About 14 people who jumped off the ship and the barge were rescued later, the agency said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire that night, local newswire Vietnamnet reported.

However, on Friday morning fuel began leaking from the injured ship, posing the risk of another fire on the river, Le Tan Buu, vice director of the department, told the newswire.

The department is investigating the cause of the accident while also trying to stop the leak.
