The German Embassy in Vietnam began a search for the origins of the new German Minister of Health, Philipp Roesler.

Ly Hoa Khuong, coordinator of the German GTZ organisation’s natural resource management project in Soc Trang province, told Tuoi Tre that he had received the German Embassy’s announcement of the schedule to research the background of the Germany’s Minister of Health.

Soc Trang authorities have asked Khuong to guide the German Embassy’s staff to the places said to be the original home of Roesler. Khuong said that the search will start at Quan Phong monastery on November 18-19.

The German Embassy’s employees will meet with anyone who knows about the children who were taken to this monastery before they went to Germany with their adoptive parents.

Philipp Roesler was born in southern Khanh Hoa province in 1973. When he was 9 years old, he was adopted by a German family. He studied at the University of Medicine in Hanover City and in 1996, after 4 years in the Free Democratic Party, he was elected chairman of the Party’s Youth Union.

In 2000, Philipp Roseler was appointed the Party’s General Secretary. In 2003, at the age of 30, he became a member of Niedersachsen’s Federal Assembly. In 2009, he was elected as Germany’s Minister of Health.

He is not only the youngest minister in Germany but also the first Vietnamese-German as well as the first minister of Asian origin to assume a high-ranking political position in the German government.
